    2025 Neurosurgical Emergencies Course

    All neurosurgical practices deal with neurosurgical emergencies. This course is designed for neurosurgeons, neurosurgery advanced practice providers (APPs), neurologists, intensivists, and emergency medicine physicians.  It provides information about state-of-the-art diagnosis, workup and first-line treatments for neurosurgical emergencies.  Covered in detail are: resuscitation, advances in stroke management, the ever-changing landscape of anticoagulation, TBI, spine trauma, postoperative management, prognosis, and the care of the elderly with neurosurgical issues. Learning will be enhanced with active teaching techniques including case-based discussions as well as instruction by world experts.

    This is a good crash course for medical students and residents on how to be effective in the emergency operating room and a good primer for junior residents on seeing neurosurgical patients in the ER.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Improved ability to describe and distinguish state-of-the-art surgery for all spine trauma and spinal cord injury.
    • Increased confidence in implementing the correct treatment of hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke.
    • Increased knowledge from the trauma of blood thinners prior to and after intracranial hemorrhage.
    • Improve ability to manage neurosurgical patients in the postoperative period.
    • Increase knowledge of prognosis and the effect of age on neurological injury.
