    20 Holford Square

    Percy Circus

    London, England

    July 3, 1913

    My Dear Son,

…Well we were very proud to hear of the compliments passed on you. They are beginning to take notice of you on all sides. Just let them wait for a year or two and you will show them all the way. It looks as if Hopkins was the best place for you to make a good finish. Don't let the money question influence you in any way. If you need any just call on Father. He carries the purse now and he will be more than pleased to send you some.

I want to see you beat Dr. Cushing and all the rest of them. I would sure publish that work regardless of how he felt about it. You have to look out for yourself. He did not do much for you, not even put in a good word for you.…

    Your loving Mother

P.S. If you go to Chicago, I believe I would go and see Matthew.
